What you need to know about foot injuries

Heel pain and plantar fasciitis, characterized by acute, often severe pain around your heel and the side of your foot; it’s common among runners and people who stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. If you have heel pain remember to:

  • Rest and avoiding putting weight or stress on your feet
  • Take over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or Tylenol
  • Ice your heel several times per day for 15 minutes
  • Wear wedges or heel supports in your shoes
  • Stretch your arches several times every day

Foot fractures, characterized by swelling and throbbing pain that worsens when you put weight on your feet and decreases when you rest. If you think you have fractured your foot, Dr. Vines needs to see you immediately. You need the help of a professional to treat a foot fracture. Dr. Vines will:

  • Place your foot in a cast to keep it stable while it heals
